Embracing
Adversity
We
face a lot of challenges in life as we grow up – the mark of a person is how
he/she faces the challenge. Sometimes the challenge is so daunting that one
mentally gives up even before trying. If you take sports or adventure sports
then the challenge is something to be achieved. It was said in the early days
that the four-minute mile barrier would never be broken – till Roger Bannister
came along and proved them wrong. Mount Everest could never be conquered till
Hillary and Tenzing reached the peak! Human spirit rises to every challenge –
you get strength and courage to overcome and overpower such challenges, you
have to have faith and belief in yourself, and you find yourself overcoming
near impossible tasks!
The
moment you feel scared that challenge becomes a problem, that adversity becomes
an issue – that is because your mind has taken a negative turn, you are now afraid!
The fear is in the mind, fear is a thought which comes from a negative bent of
mind. Forget the fear and you find a solution to your problem. Fear only helps
you find an excuse to run away, but you can run away once, twice but the third
time you will be forced to face the adversity. And this time, because you ran
away the first two times, the intensity will be ten times as severe and you now
do not have the option to run. This causes severe stress and pressure on both
the person and the family. Stress invariably affects one’s health, so the best
strategy is to embrace the adversity.
Regular
meditation helps one remain balanced and focused, so when life throws any
challenges, you are ready to take them on – when you do that you make adversity
your friend, you use it as a stepping stone to rise above yourself and move
ahead in life! Meditation under the guidance of a realised Master helps you
move from the gross to the subtle, and as you progress you realise that life’s
adversities actually help you in working out your karma. On the path of
liberation, these adversities are nothing but past life karmas which you have
to overcome and extinguish so as to elevate yourself to the next level. After a
point you do not feel any so-called adversity to be that – it becomes just
another phase of life which you face and move on. With each such phase you find
yourself becoming calmer and calmer as you find yourself becoming one with your
own self!
