Live Life to the Fullest

Live Life to the Fullest

Every new year people make resolutions to lose weight, stop smoking, eat less, drink less and so on. None of these resolutions are truly helpful in living life to the full as invariably, except for a very small minority, everyone forgets their new year’s resolution within a week – it is more of a fad than anything else. Rather than resolutions it would be better as Seneca said, “Begin at once to live and count each separate day as a separate life.”

When we are young time passes very slowly as the day seems to stretch for a long time giving us the opportunity to have fun, play the mischief in a seemingly never-ending day. But, with the passage of time and added responsibilities we find that day follows night and time just flies! Maybe it’s a rite of passage from childhood to adulthood, the moment when you realise life happens now and that’s all that you are guaranteed. It doesn’t really hit you when you merely know it intellectually, like you know your ABCs, your states, your animal and other concrete facts. It really hits you when you somehow feel it. Your health deteriorates, you lose someone you love, a tragedy rocks your world – it isn’t until you realise that all life fades that you begin to consider ‘now’ as a commodity, and a scarce one at that!

Maybe even that is irrelevant, maybe living a meaningful, passionate life has nothing to do with its length and everything to do with its quality. Then, the question was what do we do to live life to the fullest?

These are certain pointers – for me everything changed after I started meditation under the guidance of a Himalayan Master – His Holiness Shivkrupanand Swamiji. So, coming to the how – here are a few pointers which I learnt. Meditate, go within and find your own true purpose of life. Live in the moment, the past is history and the future a mystery. Fully embrace the now, no matter what the situation. By embracing the now, you send a message to the universe that you are ready to play by its rules, believe me you will always be content once you learn this. Do the things you love and love the things you do – you will always be filled with joy. Learn to forgive and forget and embrace unconditional love – without unconditional love forgiving becomes difficult – forgive yourself first and love yourself first – then only will be able to forgive and love others!

Live every moment as if it is your last and experience every moment as if it is your first. Learn to sit and reflect, go within and reflect honestly, learn to laugh and make others laugh – happiness is good for the heart. Become like a child, have its innocence, and laugh like there is no tomorrow. Love your work, enjoy it, do not get stressed out – enjoy each and every moment of your work, every day brings a new challenge, just face it and move on – courage and solutions come automatically when you begin to live in the moment.
