Live in the Present

Live in the Present

It is rightly said that we live in our minds. Our mind is so powerful that it keeps thinking and imagining things. How does this take place you may well ask! We keep remembering things from the past, and most of us only recall bad experiences, bad memories and relive the incidents in our minds, and when we do that, we unconsciously think what action we should take to correct that perceived hurt or set right whatever has happened in the past. By doing this we are always vacillating from the past into the future. This works like a pendulum; the mind goes into the past and then into the future – while doing that is it ever in the present moment? Nope!

If you are not living in the present moment, you are not focusing hundred percent on the task on hand, and if you are not giving it your best then you are not doing justice to whatever you are doing. By living in the past or in the future in your mind, you are also giving yourself stress unknowingly! Recollecting bad memories and reliving them again and again is like opening a physical wound by scratching again and again – by doing so you bleed again. A physical wound heals, but a mental wound does not heal unless you let it!

The best way to let go of bad memories is to forgive people who have hurt you and seek forgiveness of people you may have hurt in the past from the bottom of your heart – your prayer for forgiveness / seeking forgiveness should touch the soul of the other person. When that actually happens, you will learn to also forget the past bad experiences.

Meditation is a big help in living in the present. By meditating regularly under the guidance of a realised Master you learn to live in the present moment. Once you start doing that you will notice that your stress levels have gone down, your energy levels have gone up and you have become more buoyant and joyous. So, just meditate and be in the present.
