We Are the Earth

We Are the Earth

The Earth is unique, irreplaceable, and one of a kind. For millennia, she has nurtured us and all forms of life, providing the conditions for growth, sustenance, and evolution. On Earth Day, we are reminded of a profound truth: we are not separate from the Earth - we are the Earth.

Every breath we take, every drop of water we drink, every grain of food we eat is a gift from her. The five elements - earth, water, fire, air, and space - are not only outside us but within us too. Our bodies are made of soil, our blood flows like rivers, our warmth is the fire of life, our breath is the wind, and our consciousness expands like the sky. This deep connection establishes that we are inseparable from the magnetic force of Mother Earth.

This realisation leads us to a sobering thought: if the planet is in danger, we are in danger. If the planet is healthy, we will be healthy. For the first time in humanity’s history, we are compelled to speak about protecting the very planet that has nourished thousands of generations. None of those generations ever imagined a day would come when humans would have to consciously take care of the Earth. It is as if an infant is talking about saving its mother. Yet, this is our reality.

Meditation helps us reconnect with this truth. Under the guidance of a self-realised Master like Shree Shivkrupanand Swami, meditation becomes a bridge to the Earth element. In silence, we purify ourselves, and in purification, we elevate ourselves. We learn that the Earth is not merely a resource - it is our mother. She protects us unconditionally, and it is our responsibility to give back more than what we receive.

When we meditate, we feel the pulse of the Earth within us. We sense her rhythm in our heartbeat, her breath in our lungs, her warmth in our spirit. This awareness transforms our perspective. We no longer see ourselves as separate beings exploiting nature, but as children of the Earth, entrusted with her care.

Living with this awareness changes our actions. We begin to nurture rather than exploit, to conserve rather than consume blindly. We realise that protecting forests, rivers, and air is not charity - it is self-preservation. Caring for the Earth is caring for ourselves, our families, and future generations.

The thought “We are the Earth” teaches us humility, reminding us that we are not masters of the planet but participants in her great cycle. It teaches us responsibility, reminding us that our choices ripple across ecosystems. And it teaches us gratitude, reminding us that every moment of life is sustained by her generosity.

On Earth Day, let us renew this awareness. Let us meditate upon the five elements within and around us. Let us feel the soil beneath our feet, the air in our lungs, the fire in our heart, the water in our veins, and the space in our consciousness. In this meditation, we realise that the Earth is not outside us - she is us, just as we and the universe are one.

Ultimately, to say “We are the Earth, we are the Universe” is to acknowledge our deepest identity. It is to live in harmony with nature, to align with universal rhythms, and to radiate love and respect for all beings. When we embody this truth, we become guardians of the planet, protectors of life, and participants in the great cosmic dance of existence.

Jai Baba Swami!
