Life – a Pilgrimage

Life – a Pilgrimage

In times of stress, we always end up remembering God, and call out for help from the bottom of our heart. This is simply because we have forgotten about God and He likes to give us a gentle reminder that He is around and waiting for us to remember Him. When we don’t, then situations are created where we are forced to remember God, not out of choice but because the circumstances have become too powerful for us to overcome just by ourselves.

We run out of energy, out of gas as we try to battle our current crisis, and at that a moment a prayer rises from deep within us and by and by we see that things are not as bad as they seem, solutions pop up and we live to fight another day.

If we observe ourselves, we will realise that we think of God only superficially when we are not in trouble, it’s like saying – “Hey, dude, I am around and remembering you.” That too is fine, God does not mind, simply because he lies within us and we have to go to him, we have to find him, because we are his reflection. In a way, our life’s journey is nothing but a pilgrimage in search of God – some do it unconsciously and others do it consciously!

Then, if our life is a pilgrimage then it should be goal-less – simply because existence just IS, there is no reason for it. If we understand this, then we will never be in a hurry to reach somewhere. We will start living in the moment. We understand that life is a journey with ups and downs, we just convert it into a pilgrimage by accepting all that is happening and living in the joy of the moment.

Live in the moment for the sheer joy of living it. And the only way to live, love, enjoy, is to forget the future. And if we can forget the future, if we can see for ourself that it is not there, there is no point in constantly getting ready for it. The moment we drop the future, the past becomes irrelevant of its own accord. We carry the past so that we can use it in the future. If that was not the case, then where is the necessity for carrying the past? It is unnecessary! If there is no future, what is the point of carrying knowledge that the past has given to us? It is a burden we carry and will destroy our mental peace and thereby the joy of the journey.

Just remember – life is a pure journey. Life is a pilgrimage to nowhere – from nowhere to nowhere. And between these two nowhere’s is the now-here – nowhere consists of two words – now, here. That’s it – now here – the present moment.
