Nature Is Our Life

Nature Is Our Life

We are made up of the five elements and when we die, we all merge with the five elements – through burial, through cremation or like the Parsi community offering the bodies of their dead to vultures. Basically, we ultimately end up becoming one with nature itself.

If that is the case, why are we not in tune with nature while we live, we do everything in our power to abuse nature, use of plastics, deforestation for human greed, sand mining in rivers, dumping industrial and city waste into our rivers and seas, and the list could go on. Air pollution adds to our health issues. On the one side we pollute in the name of development and on the other hand we try fight the existing system through violent protests which again violates nature.

Man actually cannot live without nature – without trees and trees cannot live without man. Animals are needed for trees and trees are needed for animals. They are not separate; they are part of one rhythm. This too is a fact – the relationship is purely symbiotic. Life should not avoid or violate this. One should understand this in totality, one has to live in such a way that no one becomes, or pretends to become the whole. There is absolutely no need to destroy, no need to fight.

In the East, specially in the tribal areas in India, the people live in communion with nature, respect and love nature and their lives are filled with simplicity, happiness and joy. The West tried to impose its will on the world and this led to violence all round, nature was abused and today we see its fallout. Nature is striking back, we have forest fires, volcanos erupting, glaciers melting, ocean levels rising, global warming, typhoons, cyclones, unseasonal rain creating havoc with floods and when nature rebels we find ourselves to be puny and insignificant and helpless.

The best way is to become one with nature, first become one with your own nature. This is possible through meditation and mindfulness practice. Do everything in awareness, become a witness – easier said than done. To become a witness, you need to drop everything, you have to become empty, the mind has to become calm, silent and only then can that inner you awaken. Just try sitting with a stopwatch – time yourself for one minute and try to keep your mind quiet. We cannot keep our mind quiet for even 5 seconds, in that one minute you will realise how full we are with nonsense.

Embrace nature, love it, become one with it – deep meditation helps you see your own nature, become one with it and then in unity everything becomes one – you see that there is no difference between nature and you – you yourself become nature!
