Is Samarpan = Surrender?

Is Samarpan = Surrender?

Actually, the word ‘samarpan’ has no equivalent in the English language. The Oxford dictionary defines ‘surrender’ as, “to admit that you have been defeated and want to stop fighting; to allow yourself to be caught, taken prisoner, etc.” If you notice, this surrender is related to violence, it is has got more to do with military activity or martial activity and not in the context of spirituality. The nearest definition in English could be complete and unconditional surrender to a superior power/energy. Swamiji had asked this question in a group once and this is the answer I had given. Swamiji had ticked this answer amongst the lot submitted by other members.

My understanding of ‘samarpan’ is that we need to completely and unconditionally submit to a higher power, unless we bow down in complete faith, with total belief in what we are to receive from the Satguru, there is no way we will receive that energy. So, we need to be humble and really bow down with total, unconditional submission, once we do that, we will begin to receive the energy from the source itself – that is the Satguru. We will begin feeling the energy at most unexpected moments, the energy starts swirling around the crown chakra and flows downwards. This could happen during meditation, during introspection, when we are in doubt and ask ourselves a question and the soul provides the answer. There are several permutations and combinations which trigger the energy flow. We just have to be humble enough to receive it.

If at any moment we doubt what is happening, the flow of energy will stop – this has nothing to do with the mind, it is a divine occurrence which we just have to accept as a divine blessing. A Satguru is like an empty pipe who pulls in universal consciousness and distributes it to his devotees – the devotees just need to develop themselves to receive that flow of energy. Once we start recognising the flow of energy and as we bow down more and more and as our submission becomes complete and unconditional, we start slowly connecting directly with universal consciousness. This happens once we start coming closer and closer to our soul – universal consciousness is omnipresent – it existed in the past, exists today and will exist in the future. We just need to purify ourselves enough to tap into that infinite source of energy.

Meditation under the guidance of a realised Master, our Guru, helps us connect with the source by using the Guru as a medium, till such time we establish our own direct connection. Meditate regularly, empty yourself to such an extent that you establish your own direct connection with that divine energy which is forever flowing in the universe, that is my prayer for all - then your surrender or samarpan can be said to be complete.
