Being Selfish is the Only Way

Being Selfish is the Only Way

On reading the title I am sure you must be thinking that I have lost my marbles…lolz. But, do give it a thought – what do you think? We are all seekers looking for the ultimate truth, most of us have found our spiritual Master and Guide, who is showing us the way, then why should we be selfish you may well ask!! Actually, everything to do with our life is to be dealt with by us individually. We are born alone, we grow up under the guidance of parents, teachers, live with friends, colleagues – but all the while the consequences of our actions are all our own. Other people may feel the pain or joy based on our achievements – but the fruit of our actions is our own, no one else can take that away from us.

In the material world being selfish is considered bad, and yes, it is because we are supposed to share everything – share our happiness, donate to the needy, spread happiness, etc. – because that is what the world expects us to do. We are all told about the joy of giving – donation campaigns are run with that slogan – so everything here is about sharing – just the opposite of being selfish and self-centered.

Now think of yourself as a seeker – you are on the path of liberation; your Master has carried you at high speed and dropped you off on the road connecting the highway which goes to your own abode. This road to your own abode is now dark and you have to find your own way. There is no one to help you now. At this point you have to become extremely selfish and focus on your inner journey. You have to slowly and steadily move forward on the short path to reach your abode. There may be pitfalls on the way, there could be barriers, there could be all kinds of obstacles on that short path – and you may reach your destination in a jiffy or you may take a lot of time. It depends only on you.

If you feel afraid, scared you will not progress, if you depend on others you will not progress – you have to embrace the dark, be comfortable as it envelops you, feel its cool energy and move on. This darkness is benign, loving and it embraces you – don’t be afraid as you dive deep into your consciousness. Ultimately, you will reach that inner core, your inner abode where there is nothing but silence, resounding silence, bliss and untold joy. So, be selfish on your inner journey – that is the only way!
