Satchitananda – Part 2
In the fifth body, that is the spiritual body the
ego falls away and the answer to ‘Who am I?’ reveals itself. The conflicts and
problems of the individual end over here. A great transformation comes about
within one who has known himself. But this is not the end; one has to go still
further. Bliss becomes a problem and the feeling is so good that seekers get
stuck here and do not progress to Brahman (the cosmic reality) from this
stage – the move from Atma gyan to Brahma gyan!
In our spiritual journey, happiness was an
experience, misery was an experience, bliss too is an experience. Just observe
it from a distance, do not become a part of it, just witness it. Because as
Osho says, “As long as there is experience there is an obstacle: the ultimate
end has not been reached.” At the ultimate state all experiences end. Joy and
sorrow come to an end and so does bliss. Till the fifth stage words can express
the feelings, the sensations, and after the fifth stage there are no words to
describe the sensation beyond this point. This is why God has been described as
Sat-Chit-Ananda or truth-consciousness-bliss. This is not the form of the
supreme self, but this is the ultimate that words can describe!
Most seekers are looking for bliss and feel
satiated when they reach this stage, very few people are looking for the
ultimate truth, thus do not look for bliss and seek the truth. If you do so
then you won’t be stuck at this level for long.
Therefore, from the very beginning you should be
seeking the truth and not bliss so that you can progress further. At this stage
ego has gone but I-am-ness still persists, the feeling of ‘am’ is still there.
The difference being in ‘I am’ the ‘I’ will die but ‘am’ will remain. Here ‘am’
is asmita – the feeling of being. There are two things to know here -
the first is freedom from something; this is one thing and it ends at the fifth
stage. The second is freedom from the self, and from this stage on a completely
new world starts.
The sixth stage is the cosmic body – here there is
no duality. In this stage the experience of existence, of being is lost here –
the feeling of ‘I am’ – asmita will also disappear. Here the perception
of reality becomes the perception of consciousness. The consciousness is now
free of ‘me’, it is no longer ‘my consciousness’ – it is just consciousness, no
longer ‘my existence’, just existence.
Very few meditators reach this stage and a majority
of those who reach this stage stop here – because they have reached the stage
of ‘Aham Brahmasami’ – ‘I am the Brahman’ – what more is there to seek?
Brahman is the cosmic reality. There is nothing beyond.
But there is – we will discuss that in the final
post on this subject tomorrow.
