Inner Freedom

Image
Photo Credit: Pinterest Inner Freedom There’s a spiritual concept that seems to create a good deal of confusion. It goes by the name of freedom or liberation, both terms referring not to political freedom but inner freedom. The reason that “freedom” has a spiritual meaning is that a state of total freedom is possible. The confusion arises because at first glance we already feel free inside, most of the time, at least. Our thoughts and feelings are our own. We can be persuaded or coerced to change our minds, but in the end, we decide for ourselves. Inner freedom is the ability to do all things guided by wisdom. Most people are bound by their desires, which is not freedom at all. We must never forget that we are all free agents. We can change our karma if we use our will power, and are guided by wisdom as we do so. If we guide our actions by will power and wisdom, the power of our wrong habits will grow weaker and the power of our good actions will grow stronger. We must not ...

Drop Everything

Image
Photo Credit: Pinterest Drop Everything It is very difficult to be in the world, but it is even more difficult to be non-attached when the spiritual world opens its doors. The difficulty of the second is a million-fold because the worldly powers are not real powers. They are impotent; and they never satisfy us, they never make us contented. In fact, every new achievement in the world creates more desires. Rather than satisfying us it sends our mind into new trips, so whatever power we attain in the world, we use it only to create new desires. Whatever money we earn in the world, we invest it to gain more money. Then more money comes; we invest it for still more money; and it continues in this manner. We find only means and means and means, and the end never comes closer. So, even a stupid person becomes aware sooner or later that he is moving in a vicious circle and there seems to be no way out of it - except to drop out. For an intelligent person - one who thinks about his l...

Meditation is not Enforced Silence

Image
Photo Credit: Pinterest Meditation is not Enforced Silence Meditation means no-thought, no-mind, no words. They have all been left behind; one has come to an immense, infinite silence. But that silence is not dead, it is a singing silence. It is throbbing, pulsating with life. It has a dancing quality to it. You cannot see the dance; you can only feel it. You cannot hear the song but it reverberates in your whole being. Your every cell becomes bathed in it. It is a tremendous experience of beauty, of bliss - but it is inexpressible. It is so vast that no word can contain it. The thing that comes closest to it is music, but that too just expresses it approximately, not exactly. Obviously, music is also sound - it is a very harmonious sound, but the sound is there. In meditation there is no sound, it is soundlessness. Everything has stopped, no movement, one has come to a complete halt. But the experience can only be described as a song, as a tremendous harmony. All these words...

Watching Our Moods

Image
Photo Credit: Pinterest Watching Our Moods Whenever we are happy, very happy, we are at a peak, and then something happens and immediately the valley follows. There are always valleys with peaks, we cannot be on the peak forever - soon we will fall into the valley, in a deep depression. If we are feeling very, very energetic, soon a tiredness will settle in. The opposite is always round the corner. It has to be so, because the opposite is not the opposite, it is the complementary. If we are happy continuously for a long time it will be too much excitement, it will be moving to the extreme – and that can be dangerous to life. We have to be thrown back into sadness. Sadness is relaxing, it is not an excitement; it is like night following day - tired, we fall asleep. It is not vicious, it is natural, and nature has its own economy. So, what should we do? Don’t disturb the circle. The only thing that we must do is that when we are high, don’t get identified with that highness. ...

Divine Rebellion

Image
Photo Credit: Pinterest Divine Rebellion Revolution is concerned with outer things - the economic structure of the society, the political structure, the state. Rebellion is inner - it is concerned with the state of consciousness. Revolution is political, rebellion is spiritual. And a true rebellion transforms us into divinity; it reveals our godhood within. It makes us aware that we are not the body, nor the mind; that we are nothing but pure consciousness, that we are only a witness. Once this is experienced, realised, life becomes a play. When misery comes, we witness it, we don’t get identified with it. Happiness comes and we witness it. Sometimes it is cloudy, very cloudy, and sometimes very sunny - but it is all the same to us because, as far as we are concerned, we remain rooted in our witnessing, which never changes. We remain immovable, unchanging. Life is a flux: everything is changing, everything is in movement. In life there are no nouns, only verbs. There is onl...

Becoming Fully Aware

Image
Photo Credit: Twitter Becoming Fully Aware At the material level we all are awake during the day and sleep at night. But in the spiritual sphere most of us are asleep while we are awake – this is our state deep within us. Even right now we are dreaming within - a thousand and one thoughts continue and we are not conscious of what is happening, we are not aware of what we are doing, we are not aware of who we are. We move as people move in sleep. People walk in their sleep – this is called somnambulism – they get out of bed, go to the kitchen, eat, and go bed again. Next morning, they have no clue about what happened at night. At the most they vaguely remember some kind of dream. Many people commit crimes in their sleep and they have no clue that they have done it. Even courts give protection to such crimes. When questioned the person does not remember anything, and when he does not remember how can he be held guilty? Awareness means that whatever is happening in the mom...

Eyes Cannot See

Image
Photo Credit: Pinterest Eyes Cannot See We see through our eyes. Remember, we see ‘through’ our eyes. Eyes cannot see; we see through them. The seer is hidden behind, the eyes are just the opening, just the windows. But we go on thinking that we see by the eyes; we go on thinking we hear by the ears. No one has ever heard by the ears. You hear ‘through’ the ears, not ‘by’ the ears. The hearer is hidden behind. The ears are just receptive organs. I touch you: I give you a loving touch, a handclasp. The hand is not touching you: I am touching you, through the hand. The hand is just instrumental, so there can be two types of touch - when I really touch you and when I just avoid touch. I can touch your hand and avoid touch. I may not be there in my hand; I may have withdrawn. Try this, and you will have a different, a distant feeling. Put your hand on someone and withdraw yourself. A dead hand is there, not you. And if the other is sensitive, he will feel a dead hand. He will feel ...
