Tomorrow is too Late

Tomorrow is too Late

It is said that procrastination is the thief of time – what this means is that when you put off doing something which can be done now, to later and then the next day and the next and so on. Basically, you are cheating on time and time waits for no one at all. With every breath we take we are losing time as we get one breath closer to the end of the chapter.

People who are lazy or plain simple careless do not bother about doing things when they are meant to be done. Sometimes this does not matter but sometimes the consequences can be disastrous. For instance, if you are not feeling well or someone in your family complains about their health, the normal reaction would be to visit a doctor or call a doctor home to check whether everything is fine. But if you don’t do that and say, ‘Take a, aspirin, crocin or whatever and you will be fine’ – then if things go south and the person’s health deteriorates then the guilt of ignoring the symptoms falls on you. Your mind starts talking to you, your conscience starts pricking you as the inner voice keeps hounding you about your carelessness. If things really and truly go bad then you carry that guilt for life – leaving a deep psychological scar on that person.

The lesson which we never learn is that the present moment is the only thing that is real – everything else is an illusion – the past is history and the future a mystery. We have to learn to do what needs to be done in real time – we can only put off till tomorrow if circumstances to execute the plans are not fully ready today. But life has its own twists and turns and as the saying goes the best laid plans of mice and men tend to fail. Even then you have to give your best shot – the results are never in your hands – but that attempt to do it has to be now – not tomorrow, not later – now!!

With the practice of meditation, the present moment becomes real – you learn to live in the moment, you learn not to procrastinate – in fact everything starts happening in real time as your soul takes control of your life. With time you learn to live in the moment and enjoy its serenity – life becomes controlled, and you start living on auto-pilot. Your attitude changes – everything just starts happening and you just become a witnessyour being exudes a joy and a radiance which is infectious as you start living in the present – and not waiting for the morrow!
