Gossip – Why it Harms you Spiritually!
Gossip – Why it Harms you Spiritually!
It is human nature to
talk about others, try to find out what is happening with so and so, whether
any affair is going on, whether the person is on drugs, drinking, having bad
company etc. This has happened to all of us and some of us indulge in this kind
of gossip even today – for entertainment purposes or for whatever reason.
The purpose of this
post is to update you on the implications of gossip and how it affects you,
especially if you are a seeker and are looking for spiritual progress. As we
meditate and progress on our inward journey our chitta (attention, subtle will
power) becomes stronger and stronger day by day. This is a very slow process
but nevertheless it is happening and we may not be aware of its impact on us.
With the passage of time our health improves, our bad habits go away, we remain
continuously happy and joyous, our personal being appears radiant and so on.
These are signs of a person on the path of spirituality. When such people
indulge in gossip or are pulled into gossip by friends, colleagues, relatives –
whoever – because such people are vibrating at a higher frequency, they end up
pulling the negative vibes from such gossip into themselves. That person may
not realise it at that point of time, because all that is happening in fun and
at someone else’s expense! But later on, things start going wrong in the life
of the seeker, that person will get indications from above that these things
are happening because of the gossip he/she indulged – there will be a direct
link which he/she will come to know about and such a person will realise that
what he/she did was wrong.
Higher energy always
absorbs the lower energy, diluting that person’s own energy – so one needs to
be very careful not to indulge in useless gossip. If you find yourself getting
pulled into any such conversation or situation, quietly excuse yourself and
leave from there. With heightened awareness and mindfulness practise this will
become second nature and you will find that your soul guides you away from any
such potential danger. Gossip just burns up energy which you create through
your meditative and spiritual practise.
It is best to stay
focused on the positive aspects of life in every stage of one’s daily routine
existence – home, family, friends, office, parties etc. If you do that, and
stay away from unnecessary gossip you will find yourself progressing much
faster in your inward journey. Keep meditating, stay focused, stay blissed and
blessed – you will be doing this automatically if you just stay away from
gossip!
