What is Guru-karya?

What is Guru-karya?

Guru-karya can be defined as any work performed selflessly which gives joy to the soul. We can carry this further and say that everything that we do in our day-to-day activity could be considered to be Guru-karya – for instance your housework, office work, speaking with guests, being nice to strangers, any and everything under the sun done with the sole purpose of giving joy to the soul – that is Guru-karya.

Sadhaks consider that the work they do for the Trusts or the Foundation only is Guru-karya – I find that a lot of sadhaks compete for Guru-karya and feel bad, sad, jealous if other people get the opportunity to do that Guru-karya. When we have such feelings we are hampering our own spiritual progress, we are hurting our heart and throat chakras and also the Agya (Brow) chakra when the sadhaks doing the missed out Guru-karya get stuck in our brow chakra!

There is so much of Guru-karya you can do without being affected by others or without affecting others! You could speak about Samarpan and Gurutattva to your friends, relatives, you could write your views, record videos and post them. Help your centre in arranging meditation camps, contribute financially and if you cannot do any of this, you can at least pray for those people who are doing the work.

But what do you think is the best Guru-karya? The best Guru-karya is taking care of your own self – keeping yourself physically, mentally and spiritually fit and aware. Believe me, if you are not physically fit then you lose your mental peace and once you do that there is no way you can progress spiritually. So, the foremost thing you should do is ensure that you are physically in peak condition – exercise, do yoga, eat healthy food, rest well, meditate – do everything to keep your body in shape. This in my view is the best Guru-karya – if you do this then you are less a burden on your Guru as he does not have to spend energy in protecting you, you do it yourself by remaining physically, mentally and spiritually healthy.
