Grace is Subtle, Be
Alert to Catch It
We live in a world
that constantly screams for our attention - notifications buzzing, deadlines
looming, traffic blaring. Our minds have become tuned to the loud, the
dramatic, and the obvious. Because of this conditioning, we often expect
spiritual experiences or divine intervention to arrive with thunderclaps and
miracles. Yet Grace does not shout. Grace is subtle.
Grace is like a
gentle breeze, a quiet presence that is always available but easily missed if
we are wrapped up in our own mental chatter. It is not something you command or
earn; it is an ongoing atmospheric reality. The question is never whether Grace
is present, but whether our faculties are sharp enough to notice it.
Swamiji’s Grace flows
continuously towards sadhaks. The real question is: do we have the receptivity?
If Grace were overwhelming and obvious, it would force itself upon us,
overriding our free will. But spirituality is about willing, conscious
alignment. Grace respects our freedom - it waits for our alertness, our
awareness.
Most people look for
grand signs, miracles, or sudden shifts to validate their spiritual path. But
Grace operates in the subtle realm. Contrast the gross aspects of life - survival,
physical needs, logical thoughts - with the subtle dimensions - intuition, deep
peace, a sense of oneness. Grace belongs to the subtle.
Think of a radio. The
music is already in the air as radio waves, but if our receiver is tuned to the
wrong frequency, or if there is too much static, we hear nothing. Alertness is
the act of tuning our receiver.
How do we become
alert? Not by tense concentration, but by relaxed, sharp awareness. It means
learning to sit quietly, slowing down the breath, and observing the present
moment without immediately labelling or judging it. To catch something subtle, our
own mind must become quiet and refined. A turbulent mind can only experience
turbulent things.
Grace is not abstract
- it shows up in daily life. It is the sudden clarity that comes after
confusion, the uncaused joy while doing mundane chores, or the profound sense
of protection during a difficult time. When we are alert, the entire universe
begins to look like a conspiracy of Grace. Even a simple breath can become
ecstatic if we are fully present to receive it.
Grace is the ultimate
lubrication for life. It allows us to move through existence with effortless
ease rather than constant friction. We don’t need to search for Grace across
the world. We just need to clean the mirror of our own awareness.
The Divine is never
absent; it is only waiting for us to become alert. Grace is subtle, but once we
catch it, it transforms our life. It shifts our perspective, softens our heart,
and fills our being with peace.
Collective meditation
under the guidance of a Himalayan Master like Shree Shivkrupanand Swamiji helps
dissolve the self and enter the state of “no mind.” In this state, receptivity
blossoms naturally. Grace, which was always present, becomes visible, tangible,
and transformative.
Grace is subtle - to
catch it, we must refine our awareness, quiet our mind, and remain alert. When we
do, life itself becomes a dance of Grace. Every moment, every breath, every
encounter reveals the Divine presence. The question is not whether Grace is
here - it is whether we are awake enough to receive it.
