Being with your Soul

Once you have got self-realisation, then what is the way forward, you may well ask! One has to remember that self-realisation is just the first step towards liberation – this means that your soul has been awakened and now ‘you’ know that you are a ‘soul’. After you realise this then the next step is to stay in the company of your soul more and more.

As human beings we are naturally inclined to keep our attention focused on the external environment – throughout the day we are in the company of many different souls, at home, while traveling, in office, in the gym, etc – but not with our own soul! Even though we are outside for the whole day we do return home in the evening or latest by nightfall. In the same way our own home is our inner abode where the soul resides – the saints in India call this the ‘atmadham’ – or inner abode.

To stay in touch with our soul in complete awareness is not easy, it requires dedicated practice and a deep commitment on the part of every true seeker. Give yourself at least half an hour every day to remain still in your inner abode, the house of your soul. They best time is early in the morning, anytime between 3am and 6am. At this time everybody else is sleeping, as such there is less thought pollution, and the best part is the Himalayan Gurus are meditating and helping you in your nascent endeavours to stay focused during meditation. Their energies are guiding you very subtly – with practice you will start feeling their divine presence in the form of divine vibrations and energy.

When you begin this practice, initially you will find it very difficult to sit in one place, your body will resist, then you mind will try to stop you and finally your intellect – basically it is you yourself or your ego or body consciousness which will stop you from reaching your inner abode. With time, you will overcome this and with practice you will learn to go into a meditative state in 5-10 minutes.

This is the beginning of one’s journey from self-realisation to liberation or moksha. This is a very long journey, but you have to stay the course with focus and dedication. The longer you stay on the path the more you shed your body consciousness and gain soul consciousness. With greater soul consciousness you learn to stay in the company of your soul – now your soul becomes your guide and starts telling you what to do and what not to do. You need to listen to the soul and not ignore it – because of you choose to ignore it you will slowly go back to the beginning of your journey!

This journey is enlightening, wonderful, gives you deep inner peace and develops a kind of radiance around you, just stay on the path with focus and dedication, complete faith and belief and you will definitely reach your goal!
