Selfless Love
To be selfless means to put the needs
and desires of others above your own desires. It is about making compromises
and tough decisions with those you love; it means giving your love for others a
priority ahead of what you yourself may want. When your navel and heart chakra
develop to such an extent then your nature becomes one of pure giving, giving
and more giving. When this happens, you are not bothered about your needs as
your compassion and feeling for others surpasses your own needs.
If you observe nature – it gives
unconditionally – the Sun is giving light and energy without asking for
anything in return, rivers provide you with water, trees with shade and fruits
and the examples could go on and on. If we tune ourselves with nature and merge
with it then we too become more giving, more compassionate, our caring for
others becomes second nature and we offer to help spontaneously without thinking
of what the consequences might be!
The best part of selfless love as part
of our own nature is that we begin to love ourselves too selflessly, the moment
we start loving ourselves, our love for others expands exponentially and then it
is no longer restricted to just people – it encompasses all sentient and
insentient beings on earth. Ask yourself this – when you see a nail, a stone,
or any object which may cause hurt or damage to anyone lying on the road or
footpath, do you bend down to pick it up and put it in the dustbin? Or do any
such selfless act which potentially could harm someone you do not know at all –
because by removing such object from the street you are doing a good turn to
unknown persons – that is selflessness in operation.
With regular meditation and mindfulness
practice you will observe that your own nature changes. The moment you cross
the heart chakra your nature becomes more loving and giving, you think less of
yourself and your needs and more for others. You become helpful with loads of
compassion built, people start getting attracted to you because of your giving
nature. There will be people who will try to take advantage, but mainly those
who are needy will come to you and your soul will guide you when the greedy try
to con you. Apart from becoming compassionate and giving, you will also become
smart and diplomatic and charmingly deny those who are greedy and try to take
advantage of you. This is the beauty of becoming soul conscious, because with your
soul becoming your Guru, you get inner guidance on what to do and what not to
do!
