Confusion is the Illness

Our true nature is enlightenment and there is really no need to do anything. It is only when effort is exhausted and one feels utterly useless that grace begins to shower. Both these statements are so contradictory and confusing but both of them are true in their own way. Meditation is the way to get rid of this confusion, but the thoughts and the contemplation on the contradiction keeps appearing in the mind – thus meditation too becomes a mental conflict.

Osho has said that confusion is the illness and meditation is medicinal. Both the words – meditation and medicine – come from the same root. If you are confused, then meditation is the way to go, you will have to continue meditating. When you see the point without any confusion, then the need does not arise. Meditation prepares you, forces you to see the point that there is really no need to do anything. Only meditation can do that for you.

You will realise that being natural is to be enlightened. Can you sit down quietly doing nothing – nothing absolutely nothing – no thought even? If you can really sit in that stillness, in silence, then this question becomes redundant.

Not doing anything is difficult, not thinking even more so. This is because we are so accustomed to ‘doing’ things that we have completely forgotten our true nature, that is enlightenment. Even sitting becomes an act, we say, “I am going to sit”. The ego manifests the moment we say ‘I’ and the act follows – just sitting naturally without thinking – we have forgotten how to do that! Because we are doers, we are confused, confusion is created by action, ego and desire.

So, if you are confused then meditation is the only way. Meditation is not for enlightenment; meditation is for confused people. Meditation does not lead you to enlightenment; it simply makes you fed up with your confusion, it is just a way to get rid of confusion. When there is no confusion, enlightenment happens.

Meditation takes things away from you as your chakras are cleansed. Anger disappears, greed disappears, desire disappears and you start losing whatever you had accumulated as you become poorer day by day. That’s what Jesus meant when he said, “Blessed are those who are poor in spirit.”

Meditations are cathartic. They throw all the rubbish that is within you. They simply cleanse you. They open the doors; they open the inner eyes – the sun is there. The light comes in. You see the light clearly within, you have now become natural, in tune with your true nature – enlightened!
